The end of the article is what I was hoping for. We all know that we shouldn’t let the media distract and control us, but the real magic happens once you know how to deeply focus on something and use your mind like a light sabre again. I am experiencing some form of PTSD and I came to realise that the way I am using distraction is actually counter productive to my symptoms. My automatic negative thoughts would jump from one horror scenario to the other and the spiral of doom would reinforce itself with an ever faster pace. The only way to get out of it is to do what your brain loves most: deep work. Just focus on something meaningful. Read a book like it is the last one on earth, work out in the gym or go to a salsa class. It’s easy to say “focus on something else”, but it is hard to actually do it. We need to wake the f up from this. We are already deep down the alley of 1984…
